Annapurna Mai

Annapurna Mai is one of the Hindu Goddessess. Anna means food and purna mean full or filled , so her name Annapurna means –“ Filled with food .” In Nepal Annapurna mai is also depicted and worshipped in the form of a large pitcher .

In this painting Annapurna mai is depicted against a background of a blazing fire and you can see her temple in the top left corner of the painting . She wears all the six jewels and is seated on top of a serpent . She looks like a beautiful maiden and has a very serene and smiling face . She wears a garland of severed heads and holds different auspicious objects in her hands .

She has a temple located in one of the busiest places of Kathmandu – in Ason Tole .
