Description

Original Hand-Painted Lokeshvara:

Avalokiteshvara, or Lokeshvara in Sanskrit, is a revered bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism that represents the compassionate essence of enlightened beings. The name translates as "The Lord Who Looks Down with Compassion" or "The One Who Hears the Cries of the World." Avalokiteshvara is represented with several arms and heads, representing unlimited compassion and the power to help countless beings at once. His primary hand gesture is teaching or holding a wish-fulfilling gem. Avalokiteshvara's essence stresses the loving ideal that underpins Buddhist practice: listening to the cries of sentient beings and acting with unbounded compassion to guide them to liberation from suffering. Avalokiteshvara is revered across numerous Buddhist traditions and plays an important part in practice. The mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" is used to cultivate compassion and seek assistance in times of difficulty.
