Old Small sized Vairocana Buddha Thangka with brocade.
This thangka painting of Bairochana Buddha was collected in late 1980's in Kathmandu . It's a good size for a travelling practitioner or for anyone who would like to carry the thangka around easily. It's been mounted on a gorgeous flower patterned brocade .
Vairocana is a Buddha who is the embodiment of Dharmakaya, and which therefore can be seen as the universal aspect of the historical Gautama Buddha. In Sino-Japanese Buddhism, Vairocana is also seen as the embodiment of the Buddhist concept of shunyata or Emptiness.
We have had this Thangka in our collection for over 30 years now. This thangka was stored away for several years. We just very recently decided to showcase our vintage thangka collection on platforms such as Etsy. We were thrilled to discover the quality and depth of these beautiful thangkas when we unveiled them and decided to showcase them online for everyone. In early 2000 we changed our company name from J.B.Art Center to Ritual Thanka and focused primarily on collecting and selling thangka paintings.
