A unique Medicine Buddha Thangka is a rare gem, featuring remarkable artistry and deep symbolism. At the heart of the thangka, Medicine Buddha rests gracefully on a vibrant Lotus throne, embodying the healing power he provides to all sentient beings. The tranquil representation of Medicine Buddha is encircled by intricate details that illustrate the sacred six perfections (paramitas) of an Enlightened mind.
On either side of the throne, two majestic blue elephants draped in floral-patterned brocades symbolize stability and strength. Above the elephants, two blue lions with flowing manes guard the throne. But the true magnificence lies in the presence of the Sharabha, a mythical creature symbolizing the combination of strength, perseverance, and speed. This creature, with the head of a goat, the mane of a lion, and the body of a horse, is an emblem of the imperial forces of nature.
On the Sharabha’s back sit two young Devas, raising crossbeams above their heads to support the makaras, ferocious creatures that guard the sacred space. Beneath two dragons that rise from the clouds, these makaras lend an air of mystical grandeur to the artwork. The naga serpents grip the Garuda, representing the harmonious blend of wisdom, patience, morality, and effort, six essential perfections for attaining nirvana.
The 24K gold accents on black canvas enhance the vibrant thangka, imparting a regal and sacred quality to this divine artwork. The calm yet powerful figures of the Heavenly Kings in each corner anchor the composition, embodying the protection and harmony of the universe.
