Avalokiteshvara Chenrezig, commonly known as Avalokiteshvara, is a Bodhisattva shown in the Chengrezig Thangka, a classic Tibetan Buddhist artwork. Avalokiteshvara is a highly regarded figure in many Buddhist traditions, as she is the embodiment of compassion. Generally shown in a sitting or standing position in the Thangka, Avalokiteshvara is adorned with a variety of symbolic objects including prayer beads and a lotus blossom. By acting as a center of attention for devotion and meditation, the Thangka enables practitioners to establish a connection with the loving attributes of Avalokiteshvara. For individuals following the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the fine details, vivid colors, and distinctive iconography serve as a visual aid and a means of conveying spiritual teachings.
