Description

What is a Thangka painting?

The Tibetan word Thangka means an unfolding painting, where the word Thang stands for an unfolding scroll and Ka means a painting. Thangka paintings, as a whole, are a visual representation of Buddhist deities, scenes, or mandalas, painted on silk or cotton canvas.

Thangka Paintings follow a generic principle of composition, design, and iconography. It is made following tradition and guidelines while leaving spaces for personal creativity and expression. In Buddhist culture, Thangka Paintings hold high religious values. In a way, it is also a tool that facilitates the realization of one's true nature or the nature of reality

In Ritual Thangka, we provide a collection of a variety of Thangka paintings. Every one of our paintings has been hand-picked by our curators. We take great care in scrutinizing all aspects, from the quality of the thangka cloth to its composition, so that you get only the finest quality paintings.

Avalokiteshvara

This 108 Chenrezig Tibetan Thangka depicts the Tibetan Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig). On account of cultural variations, Chenrezig is given a unique name and form in Tibet. Additionally, his 4 arms represent the four immeasurables – compassion, loving-kindness, equanimity, and appreciative joy.

Every arm and hand of our 108 Chenrezig Tibetan Thangka is also rich with symbolism. His upper left-hand holds the stem of a lotus flower between the thumb and index finger. As such, devotees are reminded to strive in their practice to achieve Nirvana. The lotus grows from the muddy pond bottom through the murky water to blossom in the clean air and sunshine. In comparison, devotees can rise above the sea of suffering to experience enlightenment.

Additionally, in his upper right hand Chenrezig holds the 108 crystal mala beads between the thumb and index finger. This is because Chenrezig is constantly reciting his mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum”. This mantra translates as “Hail to the jewel of the lotus” in English and it will liberate beings from suffering.

The 108 Chenrezig Tibetan Thangka is named for the 108 mantra recitations represented by the 108 mala beads. As a result, there are 108 Chenrezig depictions on the thangka, including the centerpiece. Furthermore, each depiction of Chenrezig is fully adorned in the crown and jewels of a bodhisattva and he sits in full lotus pose.

Amazed by their customer service and collection. Would definitely recommend them to everyone

Really Great Customer Service and very beautiful thangka collection.

This is a magnificent piece of Buddha Shakyamuni thangka. Masterfully executed in rich, vibrant colors with illuminating detail; The silk brocade frame compliments the painting beautifully and forms a focal point in our praying/meditation room I receive the piece earlier than expected in good shape; and prior to purchase, Rajendra was responding quickly and very helpful in providing high resolution picture for my further evaluation. Thank you Rajendra and surely I will be back again.
